Duckling Splayed Leg?

Which did you get? From where?

I purchased a mallard (which is the big bully) and a khaki Cambell. Both purchased from Grange Co-Op. They seem like a reputable store.

If the egg tooth just fell off, I'd give it one more day before worrying.

I've hatched ducklings 2 times, both times they stilled looked like they had splayed legs at 1 day old, especially on smoother surfaces. They only got steady feet at 2 days old.

Still, some niacin supplement wouldn't hurt at all.

I started the B Complex orally and in the water. Wasn't sure if she is getting enough through the water. She does seem more "feisty" tonight. Actually observed her attempting to get up and walk. No dice though, but it made me feel like this can be solved.

Thank you to everyone so far for your concern and your advice.

Unfortunately, the little girl died today. I came home from work and she was gone. I know its part of being a small farmer, but it still was crappy to come home to today.

This is a lesson in purchasing. I will not ever buy the first duck or chick the salesperson thrusts at me. I know what to look for and what is considered healthy behavior. Thank you all for your help. The other duck and chicks are flourishing.

So sorry for your loss:hugs please consider another chick and duckling for your two they really need companionship of their own to flourish and if by chance you little duckling is a drake it is going to want to breed any female even a chicken which won’t end good for the little hen. If you chick is a female. I know your heartbroken but this is important . You want to get them while they are still young so they will bond.

Thank you everyone for your concern. As a "new" mini-farmer I knew this would happen, and as a former 4Her (eons ago) I have experienced losing animals before.

I already purchased two new ducklings to raise my flock to three ducks and five baby chicks. I was very picky at the store when selecting the new ones. And they are perfect? And damn feisty at that!!

Something I hadn't considered...the little duckling had discolored feet. She had white patches on her webbing and feet. Anyone seen anything like that before???
