duckling straining to peep

something was stuck and it was cold and scared and looking for mama. It just took a swim. It still is not 100% but much better. My wife is insisting it stays in the house tonight.
This made me smile.

You with a chicken (er duck in this case) in the house. Never thought I'd see the day!

Good to hear it is acting much better.

convinced my wife the duckling needed it's mommy chicken. I'm pretty sure the weird breathing at this pint is that the lil one was scared. We brought it back to mom. When we got to the coop to unlock the door mama heard it peeping and started calling it. I put the duckling in the coop, it's siblings and mama called it and it ran to mama. We stayed there until it nestled up to it's mama chicken.

We did all we can. If the duckling will be ok, it will be. I'm pretty sure and hopeful that it will be.

funny how I post in the emergency thread and the only replies are from friends from the Natural chicken keeping thread. Funny...or sad. I'll go with sad....

I think people ignore a post when they don't have an answer. I prefer to respond with some comment - every post deserves a reply. I don't know anything about ducks. Have you tried posting on a "duck" thread? I am a 3rd.generation worrier extreme - I would have thought it had asthma. Hope he(she) will be okay, it sure is the cutest little thing.

I haven't no. My thought was the emergency thread would be the place for an emergency. In the end I stuck with what I know from raising birds and think we did ok saving the lil one. It is now fast asleep with it's mother in the coop. If it runs out to greet me in the morning I will know I did the right thing. If it doesn't I know I did all I could. But I'm pretty sure we saved it's life tonight.
