Had to assist hatch after a duckling had pipped over 50 hours ago, it’s unfortunately just a single duckling, and I closed off an area of the incubator for him with stuffed animals, and played him some podcasts and went to bed. Woke up, about 10 hours after hatch now, and he can’t walk/stand up properly, legs just seem to weak. He also is nipping and suckling on my fingers a lot. Why can’t he stand, and what does he want right now? He is chipping a lot

Oh, did I mention this is my first time hatching ducks?( person who gave me eggs assisted with hatch over phone)

It sounds like he had a difficult hatch, so that could be contributing to the weakness you're seeing. If he was stuck in the egg for that long, he may have exhausted the nutrition that his yolk would have provided, so the nipping may indicate that he's very hungry. I'd immediately begin offering a supplement like Poultry Nutri-Drench to give him an energy boost and try to get him to eat. What are you feeding him?

BTW, I've found a small mirror to be helpful with solo hatchlings, too.

X2

I had a solo duckie (she has a friend now), but she loved that mirror.

Thank you, I’ll get him the vitamins right away
