One of my 4 new ducklings has been mouth breathing since they arrived (at I guess 3 days old, now is 6 days old) she is otherwise fine eats drinks is growing same as others I noticed her nares are not open, it looks as if there is skin covering them, (the form of them is there but no hole) I thought maybe they would open as she grows? But after watching her mouth breathe for 3 days I decided to try and help, so I took a warm wet Q-tip and very gently rubbed and one came open ! The other was taking longer to open so I put her back with her sisters to relax and see how she does, I can work on it again in the morning and see if the other one opens up. I'm just sharing this because I searched and found no information on here about it. I will update tomorrow . she is doing well right now is not mouth breathing bless her heart I guess one nare is better than none :)

she is the one on top . Its not the closest pic but can try to get a better tomorrow.

What sweeties!

Are you providing them with a water dish deep enough that they can dunk their heads in and clear out their nares? Since you managed to clear one, I'm still suspecting it's something from her hatch.
yes they have proper water set up thx. I think it's a deformity ? even after clearing a nare it is still a very tiny hole, smaller than the other ducklings

Not the same thing, but I bought 3 runners a couple years ago that I thought were deformed, no open nares at all and appeared to be sort of a growth there., took a few days with good food and clean fresh water, low and behold one of them was a white runner, I thought she was fawn, and all 3 had beautifully clean bills. The poor things were so impacted with dirt it was caked it and literally took days in water to clean.
Point is lots of gook gets stuck in there, keep up with the water ans maybe gently cleaning with a wet cloth, I agree it could be hatching snot.
