I thought she just started sitting on them on 6/6, but they are hatching..now. I have another one sitting on a nest a couple feet from her and my drake is super attached to her and has been sleeping between his 2 ladies. I went out to lock the door a couple hours ago and the other hen was on the nest along with the mama and the drake was right there watching. I sat with them awhile and everyone returned to their normal spots.
Should I move the other nest (I think she has another week)? Move the one that's hatching? Leave both the gals? Do I need to remove the drake? He and this mama are super bonded and get a little anxiety when apart. I had planned on moving this duck's nest this week. I think all three of my hens laid in both nests, I didn't know this one was buried in the straw until she started sitting on it and that was 15 days ago.

I'd move the mama that has duckling hatching take mom's nest and eggs and any hatched ducklings to a safe location so she has privacy and safety. Drakes have been known to kill ducklings. Even other female ducks have been known to kill other ducklings not hers.
Your mama duck probably isn't going to be happy with being moved but if you lock her in with her nest and ducklings she should settle down.
Or move the duck still on eggs and the drake and give the one hatching the space she is in.

I think I'll put up a little fence and give him a side of the house and hope for the best with the girls. The princess was actually sitting on Brown Duck's nest with her last night and added some straw and tucked eggs under Brown Duck.
Of all the days for me to have comitments I can't get out of.hopefully hubby will check on them. The girls will be less than impressed if they have to use the little duck door and can only access a kiddie pool and not the pond while I'm gone.
I thought I had until the July 3rd for her to hatch out. Don't know what I missed. Does it seem odd that only one has hatched in 10 hours? I think she has about a dozen under her, had intended to move a nest and candle them either tonight or tomorrow because I figured I needed to do something. Probably didn't think this through, got busy building chicken coop and tightening down biosecurity on the duck enclosure, getting my garden in and whatever else it is I do and let eggs stack up in there and now I'm going to have babies.
If anyone would have told me 6 months ago that I would be hand feeding two ducks breakfast in bed I'd have told you you were crazy, but here I am, I'm the crazy one!
Thank you for your input, have a great day!

Pics of Mama & baby and My guy giving me the stink eye cuz I locked him out of the house when I finally went in at 3:00. Every other night he wishes I would let him stay out.

Were all the eggs she is sitting on started at the same time? Or could another duck have added eggs causing a staggered hatch? I have my ducks fenced at night for the first time this year and am learning about ducks who brood where others are. They lay where others are laying and setting. They move eggs around and when the ducklings hatch mine seem more inclined to follow other ducklings then stay with mom.
Also I have not heard of much success with moving ducks and their eggs. I would move the duck with the ducklings. Or separate with fencing.

I'm pretty sure the others dropped at least one in that nest. I was wondering if it could have been one that was laid earlier and then the corner where it is gets warm in the afternoon and with the deep litter maybe it's just sooner than the others. As of this morning it's the only one that has hatched. I guess I just let her sit on them until she's done.
I ended up putting up barrier between her and the other hen so hopefully the girls will get along.
Thank you for the advice. I really don't have a clue what I'm doing but I I figure between me and Mama ducks we can hopefully managed to not mess it up too bad.

What a sweet picture of mama and duckling :love

Poor dad he'll get over it once mama and ducklings are able to be out and about. You'll just have to make sure he behaves himself.
I actually think he will, he better anyways. He'll just be so happy to be back with his Brown Duck. they have lived together their entire lives, he made me cry last night ,I put a wire deal in front of the nests and he sat on the other side and just stared at her and made pathetic little whimpering noises. This morning I was sitting in there giving the baby a little drink and watching it for a minute and he went over the top of me and started nuzzling her. If he was able to put his wings around her and hug her I think he would have.

I would move the momma and ducklings, or partition off if possible. I have had past ducks hatch eggs and the ducklings did just fine following mom around the other ducks, but why risk it if you have another option.
I put a partition for now, going to see if any other eggs hatch before I move them, I think, I don't know. The other Mama had 2 hatch last night. I guess I didn't think this through. I almost feel like a teen mom again and don't have a clue what I'm doing and probably could have been more prepared. The child made it and is doing well in life, maybe I wont' mess up the duckies too much.
Thanks for your input and advise.
