Hi, I wondered if anyone could help me as I am new to the Duck World. My first duckling hatched last night and ever since is wobbling around but not walking around. I know this process is a long one. I have tried putting a towel down as the surface was too slippy. I am not sure how long I should leave it before I intervene. I have seen many posts about tying the legs together but I don't know if I should intervene just yet. It just seems unhappy as it keeps rolling onto its back and into the other eggs that haven't hatched yet.
Any advice would be great.
Thank you

It sounds normal so far; you don't need to intervene yet. Some of my ducklings took 3-4 days before they could walk right, and even then they were quite clumsy. Others were active and running about by day 2. (The stronger ones are probably better for breeding, though.)

Is it up on its feet yet? Healthy ducklings typically don't take 24 hours to start walking, though they can be unsteady on their feet for the first day or so. Can you post a pic or video of it if it's not walking yet?

I would definitely not try to tie its legs together yet. That's not therapeutic in the condition I think you're describing. If you're able to give it poultry Nutri-Drench, or even some unflavored Pedialyte, that's the first thing to do. You can also do a drop of Polyvisol without iron ever 8-12 hours. Tiny ducklings that have these kinds of problems often have them because of deficiencies that can be corrected.

Thank you, I've left it as it is and within a few hours it's sat up and not rolling around as much. It is looking stronger now that I have put a towel for grip on the bottom of the brooder.

Great news! The supplements I mentioned still wouldn't hurt if you give them for the next several days.

Best wishes!
