Ducklings outside ?temperature for a quick play time?

Gorgeous weather up here in WNC this week. Not a cloud in the sky.

My ducklings are one week old today, and other than their daily swim in the paint rolling pan, their lives seem so gloomy in the garage brooder.

What’s the minimum temerptaure outside for them to go in a pen for a little forage fest?Its Going to be 68, but in the sun it feels more like 73.

I put our last 4 ducklings outside during the day at one week old in similar temperatures with no problems at all. I made an oval out of a 2ft tall, 20ft? long, 1inch wire fence zip tied together and capped it with an 8ft gate made out of strapping boards from a duck run we use in the winter. The gate holds the fence down and provides protection. We wrapped a heating pad in towels but they barely used it so did away with that after couple days. I cut a hole in a storage tote, turned it upside down and they had some shelter along with the paint pan pool like you use. At a month I moved them outside for good with a secure temporary coop and eventually integrated them with our existing flock of 5.

I took my ducklings outside at 2 weeks in those temperatures. We stayed outside for an hour or so, I stayed with them to observe any changes in their behavior - like huddling.

We went out for about 20 minutes. Seems like the smallest one can still make it though the pen fence...and our Border Collie was being a high drive butthead. We’ll try again later this week, sans the dog. Still working on their run, an battling with hardware wire does me in everyday.

They are painfully cute!
