I’m not sure if I was mistaken to begin with, but I’m hoping I wasn’t.
When my ducklings were around 3 weeks old, I heard each of them give a distinct “honk” sound now and again. I heard that this was females beginning to quack, but so far it’s been 2 weeks and they’ve all stopped honking except one of them, who full-on quacks now (and loud!). The rest just peep. I’m praying that the majority of them are females, but I don’t think I could’ve gotten that lucky with buying straight-run ducklings!
My question is, is it normal for females to start to quack, stop for a few weeks, and then begin again later as they mature? The one who full-on quacks has always been a bit ahead of the others as far as maturing goes.
I’m worried because, if I end up with even 2 drakes, my ratio will be unhealthily off and I’ll have to re-home some of my lovely babies
