When comparing growth, the ducks leave the chicks in the dust! I swear the ducklings grew 5 times faster than the chicks! I was unprepared and had to improvise quickly within a week and a half.

Ducklings almost double in size over night for a few weeks. I have never had chickens, but I do have an incubator full of quail eggs so I will get to see how that compares. As for the mess...sure they are messy, but my quail are PIGS!!! They make the ducks look neat and tidy!

As for smart? Depends on the duck. Guess which one of these turned out to be an escape artist?

After raising lots of chicks, I was amazed when I got ducklings and found I could put a bowl of crumbles in their brooder... and it wouldn't get pooped in or scratched out! Ducklings also seem to stay cute and downy longer. Chicks start to feather out almost instantly.
