I have some ducks and two geese that were raised without a mama. They have not imprinted and have been raised so far in a barn for their protection. I have a beautiful pond I am trying to get them to swim in and like and I march them out to the pond they stay about 15 minutes and then come back to the barn.

Can you please give me some ideas on getting them used to the pond for the day time. I plan on keeping them in a barn at night for predator protection. Any advice appreciated.

Also what about snapping turtles always a threat with ponds they can wreck havoc on water fowl. Might want to find out if any are in there before letting them loose on the pond.

Gosh they are all gorgeous

My two ducks were scared of our “pond” (40 Gallon stock tank) at first too, they didn’t get in it till I got in (up to my knees) and they followed me!

They watched me splash around at first and then they jumped in!!

My ducks are doing the same thing, I have 4 mallards ( no mama, except me!!! ) they are about 3 months old, when they were younger I would take them to the pond and they loved it, now they won't go in at all. They lay right by it but won't go in, I set traps for the last 2 weeks thinking there was a snapping turtle in it but nothing, they ( the Ducks ) watch the fish & frog swim & jump into the pond I think that's what is scaring them. I even put their kiddie pool from their pen into the edge of the pond thinking they might go into it, but nothing. :barnie
