Ducks and Chlorine?

I was at a nearby pool, watching an away swim meet, and the meet was stopped because a mother duck and her 3 ducklings were swimming across the lane lines! They were the cutest things. But someone came up to me and told me that it was ridiculous that we were taking the ducks out of the pool. He said they lived there and were at the pool everyday. I'm sure the pool staff must have done something, but I was wondering if chlorine could harm the ducks when they dive or duck their heads underwater. I know that if humans intake to much chlorine, it's not good, is it the same for poultry?

I would think it is the same at least but probably worse.
