Ducks and duck house

Went out this morning to take care of the ducks. I took the water hose, opened the door, hosed the floor down, it drained through..........what a dream!
I even carried warm/hot water out for their bath

I think I'm in love also! I'm trying to decide which kind I want next. I read where the Pekin only lives
about 5 years. I want something that lives a long time. At least longer than 5 years.

I have a Muscoy drake that is 9 years old, and still chasing the ladies.

When I was little we had a couple of Pekins that were around until I got into Jr High,so maybe over 12-13 years? They actually were fine until some neighborhood dogs got in the yard,so who knows how long we'd have had them.
I'm sure yours will last a long time in that beautiful home!

WOW, You could rent that out for a pretty penny!! I love it what a cool idea, I wish i lived in a place where I could do that. Too cold in the winter but it would work in the summer, and would look lovely in the landscape. You did a beautiful job I have an idea though, what about a pool sunk into the floor with a drain so you can clean it out when needed? just a thought. I will be telling everyone I know about this, I am sooooo jealous. I have pekins also don't get me wrong I love them, but i am getting out of them. I had one slip and fall on the ice this winter and sprain her ankle, I was soo worried she would not recover. They are such a heavy bird. Also I have children that like to play with them and they chase them sometimes and I can't get it through to them that the pekins are tooo big to chase like that, they will end up hurting themselves. on the other hand they are awesome layers, they lay better than my chickens, and baking with the eggs makes it so moist. :)

I not sure where in the world I read that............but thank you for the added years

That makes me feel good now. I usually
get so attached to my animals, that I couldn't imagine having them only 5 years.

I wanted to put the pool in the floor, but hubby will not. He says that if we ever use the building for something else, then we would have a big hole in the floor. The truth is................he wants to steal it and make a chicken coop out of it. I told him it does not have the right kind of floor for chickens. He said that they could just sleep in there at night and be let out in the daytime.

Just save the bit you cut out for the pool and it can be added back later. No biggie.
I'd get a big black cement mixing pan and put that in with support under it.
Water and play at the same time ;)

Here's a few pictures I thought someone may enjoy. Yes, it is a bit much for 2 ducks, but I was looking into the future. I may just get another "whim," as my husband calls it. Who knows, I may have a bunch of runners living in there someday. I'm still working on a permanent place for a small pool of some sort. They will be free ranging most of the time but when I'm away from home, this is their home. It's a 12' x 12'. We think it's boogy man proof, but we'll see. We did go ahead with the Trex on the floor. We left, I believe 3/8" between boards so I could just wash it out. That's how us lazy folks like to do things :) Oh and I did put a nice doggy house with straw in there so they could escape the wind and such. Not sure if they will go in or not. These two are a little over 3 weeks old, but my dear man told me I HAD TO GET THEM OUT OF THE TUB. Imagine that.

What a beautiful place to have ducks. Love it!
