I never read anything before getting ducks about how they can destroy a garden. I read how chickens will do it but NOT ducks. What is wrong with mine? I found them eating bell peppers this morning. My chickens haven't bothered anything but the ground cherries. The ducks have hit every row in the garden. I am ready to shoot all of them. I am in the process of putting up a fence, but don't have it complete. Anybody else have this problem or did I get all stupid ducks (by the way, they are afraid of the pond and they are almost a year old)?

My ducks think they are chickens....that's what I tell myself. Same problems you are having.

yes i have had that happen last year and i was so upset! anything you wanna keep even flower beds you may wanna fence off. mine dont eat the flowers and leaves of all flower plants but the dig under most and up them up out of the ground. anyway dont shoot your ducks they are very sorry and just had to tast everything atleast once:)

I got 3 cauga ducks, whom we call 3 stooges. MIL decided to stick them into her pond for a day. Within an hour they ate her water lilies. Needless to say, they got evicted. They also tried to chew on the cabbage that we were getting ready to plant. At least they didn't chew on the holy bush, or MIL would turn them into roast ducks

You do need a fence. In the end you will be happy you have those ducks because they can be wonderful for getting rid of bugs. The bugs will cross the fence to enjoy the duck poo and the ducks will grab them. Also once you harvest let them into the garden, they will root around in the soil and eat tons of grubs that would hatch out next spring. They can't get everything but I notice a huge improvement with slugs and grasshoppers.
I don't have a lot of trouble with my ducks when they get through the fence except when seedlings are just starting or their love of curcubit leaves. I think it may depend on the individual, mine have never shown much interest in tomatoes.

Edited cause I can't seem to type or edit worth a darn anymore.

My ducks have eaten basil, two tomato plants, my sedum, all the grape leaves they could reach, my dianthus flowers, my pestemon flowers, the bishop's weed seedheads, the flowers off my ground cover, any apple leaves they can reach, etc...
