I was wanting to separate a new breed of duck I was getting. I can keep them separate during the day without issue but they would be mixed at night. for best protection. Do ducks breed at night. I generally switch my ducks over right after dawn so They wouldn't be together but a few minutes after the sun was up? Would my breeding stay pure or will the ducks mix in the dark? :)

I've never watched what my drake does at night but I wouldn't put anything pass a hormonal drake if he can find a duck in the dark he'll probably mate with her. If your wanting to keep your breeds pure during breeding season might be best to keep them separated.

thanks, was pretty much what I thought but was curious. I mean chickens are pretty much motionless at night but ducks do move about like normal lol

True they are alot different than our chickens someone said water fowl sleep with one eye closed the other open. Maybe 2 separate houses and runs it would be extra work for their security but the pay off of pure bred would be worth it. If that is what your striving for,

My drake was active when I first put them up at night and they were all up wanting out by the time I made it out there in the morning. If you want pure breeds then I wouldn't let them be together at all.
