Ducks feet really messed up help please

Wow!!! I love that he is loved no matter what!! While I cant exactly help you in the form of being an experienced teacher, I did want to say Hi, let you know you're not alone. We have a sweet lil Joy, a duckling born unable to walk. We made her a walker with wheels, which helped at 1st. She doesnt have all the deformities your lil guy has, but is definately battling her share of issues. I've had the vet tell me to just put her down, but she just tried too hard, she was lively & her personality so vibrant. I've also had so many people guiding us through helping her. She has become my baby, and needs 24hour care. Her brothers and sisters are literally 5 times her size now. My biggest worry is if shes in pain. Her legs have day by day, began bowing backwards. I'm so glad you chose life for him, I know its alot of work, but to him it's the world. I'm still learning her peeps, which are so quiet. Just wanted to let you know I think you're awesome, and.... you're not alone.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Believe me Ernie gives back a hundred times his care. In the evening he peeps for my husband to put him on his lap for tv and just having him sit on your lap and stroking his solid little body melts all the days stress away. These little souls are precious gifts and little miracles, how lucky we feel he wanted to be here .

Her with my husband. Loves to cuddle daddy's neck & beard
2nd to last is with her shoes. Her feet were curled. They helped her feet, but now her legs are bent back
Last are her legs and feet, bent back towards her tail
This is my sweet lil Joy ...that loves life too much for to take it away. I'm just so worried now about her legs. I'm told now that they are probably beginning to hurt. If I give her pain meds, it takes away her appetite so she doesnt eat At All, all day.

So he will float? For some reason unknown, Joy will float but only on 1 side at a time, never upright. The 1st time we checked that out, I beleive she took in too much & aspirated water....so no more baths for her, unless I'm holding her in my hand. Joy also has Never cleaned out her nares, or blown out in the water.....does your guy do that?

She is precious, just want to noodle that little face! I tried the shoes on Ernie too for the curled toes and a sling for the backward leg just like Joy has. Read good things so Hope it works for her. Thank you for sharing her sweet pictures what a darling !

He has a tendency to drift into his left. Side which has improved as he’s grown . I actually made a float from one of those pool noodles and put it on his curled leg. He didn’t like it so I. Did same you’re doing keeping my hand under him . So I’m glad he can float on his own now just with supervision as he will still tip over sometimes and throws water on his back . I’ll send you a picture. I worry about bedsores from lying on stomach all the time and wanted him spend more time floating to take pressure off
The little float evened him up so he could stay longer in water I tied it on with fabric
So pick up a pool noodle and experiment

I thought about that also, thank you. Unfortunately she is still so tiny, it's hard to find the right pieces of things to make something work. But always willing to keep looking and trying. Was there a particular way that you determined he was not in pain and happy? That's what I'm struggling with most right now. Her legs blowing back just looks so painful. Also, was he much smaller than the others? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks again

This was her walker. She used to be able to bend the bottom half of her legs & feet forward. It has since changed to just straight bending back

I figure as long as he is eating and curious he’s probably ok . Guess there’s no way to know 100% we can only do our best and hope it’s enough . The other thing vet worried about was skin wounds over boney prominences like elbows So I always keep him on towels
I also wash his head with baby shampoo every couple days because he’s prone to eyeinfections

Wish I had an understanding duck-knowledgeable vet nearby ...still looking though. All of that makes sense. She lets out a "screech-chirp", that sounds like something hurts, at certain times. Cant seem to get comfortable in most positions. Just wish she could talk. Only way I'd really be able to care for her is if I make a type of seat or something she can lean up with, that she won't throw herself out of. I've pretty much been toting her in my arms, other than short naps & nighttime sleeping all day. The meds that he prescribed for him, was it Metacam? If so, did it affect Ernies appetite? I'm hoping to get in touch with a few "teaching vet" colleges on monday. Praying theres someone with some knowledge here that is positive and will at least take a thorough look at her. So glad Ernie ended up with you
