Ducks in the Mojave desert...

The first thing I would do is put a drain on the pool . I know how thin those pools are so you need a pool that more rigid some thing like a flat livestock waterer . Then you need to buy what's called a 2" bulk head fitting . This is a fitting that allows you to screw a 2" Gate valve on to the pool . Then no more dumping . At this point you can do , pipe or pump the water where it can be filtered back with a pond filter or a pool filter or a home made filter system of any sort you desire . Once you get started you will see . In many cases folks just need to know how to start to tackle their goal . Look up bulk head fittings . Remember your water you want to drain is low pressure so you need at least a two inch fitting or it will take some time to drain . I am just trying to get you going in the right direction . Welcome to BYC ! :frowIn any case you will need a drill bit 2" to install the bulk head fitting . Good luck .🍀 Oh I forgot . You could also use a 2" shower drain if you elevate the pool and plug it with a drain plug drain it to a recirculating pump attached to your filter . Depends on how much you want to spend .:love I forgot to add you need a shade cloth to go over your water to help prevent evaporation and some shade for your ducks . Sorry for the after thought .
Thank you that's super helpful. I'm working on making some shade for the pool using PVC. Of course I bought the wrong size PVC, lol, so it's a slow start... For now I just bought a cheap utility pump to help with at least getting most of the water to drain away from the house and into the trees. I did get a decent ramp and some better stepping stones for them to get in and out of the two pools; it seems like a hot, they all are finally in the big pool most of the time, even my poor clumsy way too far Pekin.

So the desert has brought me a tortoise, he is in the duck run and I guess he's mine now since he ate store bought lettuce and has been walking around with ducks, lol, the rules about what's a wild tortoise and no longer a wild tortoise are pretty clean out here, and now if I want to put him back in the wild I gotta send him to an organization that can run tests to make sure he doesn't have any parasites or bacterias non-endemic to the wild population... So I guess I have to adopt him, pass a tortoise stewardship program or something. I'm any case he's/she's a funny introduction to the duck hang but they seem to understand that it can't move fast and isn't a threat, so now they are just curious if it's a buddy of not, lol
