Ducks not laying

Wooohooo, she laid two days in a row! I have three eggs now! CAKE TIME! Keep me posted on when yours begin laying! I would love to hear. How old are they?

Oh yes cakes!!!! The promise of eggs to my boyfriend is the main reason he gave in to my pleading for ducks lol!!
I will do, I won't know what to do with myself when I find the first egg! They're just over 3 months old so I've resigned myself to the fact that it might not be for a while yet!

Dude, my girl lays her egg while she's inside for the night and it makes it SO easy to find the egg!

but she does it SO early. 5am. Then goes back to sleep.

I don't know if you've ever watched a video of a duck laying an egg, but it is so cute sounding.
This is exactly what she does.

Its so frustrating ....the waiting! I can SO relate!
My first duck, a Pekin, started laying at 16 weeks. yeah!

My next two Pekin didnt start till they were about 20 weeks. and they are 4 weeks younger than the oldest duck. The waiting was excruciating. The two Rouen started about 21 weeks. They are much smaller than the pekin. I have two Golden 300 hybrid layers from Metzer farms. They are quite a petite duck and they have not started really laying yet. They are 22 weeks old. I have gotten a couple of soft eggs I suspect were from them about a week ago but nothing regular. They are certainly on their own schedule and taking their own sweet time about it. I have no end of friends and neighbours now ;-) They all want to try the duck eggs. My girls better get busy ;-) Going to make some zucchini bread and maybe some lemon custard today. I love dem eggies!

I made some cupcakes with the eggs.. OMGAH SO YUMMY! We have had fried eggs with them too! It's nice to not have to pay for eggs anymore!

Oh and as far as being petite, My Khaki Campbell is rather petite herself and she popped a 2.56oz egg out of her little butt. That's the normal size my Pekin gives me. I was impressed with the eggs the Khaki gives me. I have learned, just because they're small ducks, doesn't mean they can't lay jumbo eggs by the standards!
