RIGHT! Some big eggs come out of those lil gals. and some really small ones.
I have had two eggs that were little bigger than a quarter with no yolks and I have had more than 3 double yolkers. They are just so varied. but as a rule (with mine) I have noticed that *typically* they start out laying smaller -chicken sized eggs but as the duck grows, so do the typical eggs she lays. There are always the throwbacks of course.
My point on the petite comments was more that the smaller my ducks are the later they seem to be coming into laying. I dont know if that is standard or not, it was just a thought that I didn't make too clear. also, every time they have laid the soft egg it has been at odd times,
Ducks generally lay in the late evening/ early morning. I let my ducks out around 8 or 9 in the morning so I have a better chance of finding their eggs IN the pen rather than the yard. but when they first start laying, and they are those soft eggs it has been in the afternoon or early evening. And if I dont find those soft eggs in time they WILL eat them leaving no trace. I just happen to spend A LOT of time watching my ducks so I was able to grab a couple of soft ones before they could eat them.
