Ducks paying their own way

In my area, balut would also sell, though I can't stand the thought of what balut is because it makes me cry. But, the Filipino market around here would probably take a few of those.

Congratulaions on making money. I honestly thought I would have no problems selling my duck eggs for cooking/baking but everyone said the same....dont know nothing about no duck eggs. I was like OOOOKKKKK

My neighbour was there, who sells chicken eggs and I went to look at his....his chicken eggs were just as big as my duck eggs...go figure. He was selling his eggs for 1.50 a dz. But I wont give up, I will be back there next week with more duck eggs. Its not like I have hundreds to sell, I only have 4 Pekins laying..2 doz to sell per week. ok now for a question
When I collect my eggs I just wipe them off with a damp cloth and put them in the fridge. My neighbour told me...WHY HAVENT YOU CLEANED THEM. I said I had, he told me to mix 1 Gal water to 1 cap of clorox and clean the eggs to sterilize them. Can some one get back to me on this. Im not sure what to do. Could this be why I didnt sell any

If Im selling eating eggs-each egg gets washed-duck eggs are dirty than others ( at least mine are) and I use a wash clothe to gently scrub them so not a psot of dirt is left. Then again everyone freaks around here about duck eggs-not in a good way-. I sell my chicken eggs all year round very well at 3$ a doz but i think I have only sold 3-4 dozen duck eggs! AND I think it was an accident that people grabbed the wrong ones even though they were labeled properly...haha I give them away for free if my customers want them for cooking.

Duck eggs have a sticky coating on them and Goose eggs feel like they are covered with glue. I think the purpose of all that sticky stuff is to adhere dirt to the egg and suck it in to the shell so they'll be stained forever. They are hard to clean - it doesn't come off with water. My husband gives them away at work so he just says if they don't like it they don't have to take them. They always disappear.

Stopped at my neighbors barn on the way home from town this morning. She said that the Asia people who have the nail salon she goes to will take my eggs...as much as I can get a week. They told her last thursday..pity she couldnt of phoned me before I gave away my unsold eggs!!! Oh well, never mind, will go to see them tomorrow and see what they say and such.

I've only sold MAYBE three dozen chicken eggs this year. However I've sold at least four times as many duck eggs. I put them on Craigslist and I usually get people with kids that are allergic to eggs. Quiches are a good way to display the differences between chicken and duck eggs but I like to make NOODLES out of them to show people the taste and difference in appearance. All you need is semolina flour, eggs, oil and water. Yum. The people that I sell duck eggs to don't mind paying $3+ a dozen.

I won't sell duck eggs for less than $4 a dozen--and that's for regular customers. My listed price is $5 a dozen, and they sell well at that price. The key is to finding the right market--people who know duck eggs and like to cook, are willing to pay more for them. And they are worth it--free range, humanely raised, no chemicals, etc.--plus ducks are more intensive than chickens--they need bathing water, they're messier, etc. So I feel quite justified selling them for that much. During times when they aren't selling well, I give them to friends and clients as gifts, or go on a baking spree or freeze them for winter.

Of course, your price depends on your market, too. I live in an urban area with a cooking college ten minutes drive away... so it's a different market from many people. Still, the key is always in finding the market that already wants what you have, or (if that market doesn't exist), creating it by showing them how your product is superior.

I see chicken eggs on craigslist for $1 a dozen all the time, and that's partly why I won't even bother with chicken eggs. That, and the fact that I like duck eggs better.

Well.....my neighbor went and got her nails done last week and told the Asian people who own the place about my duck eggs. She only got round to telling me yesterday about it. Went to see them today with a dozen eggs, they said they will buy every egg the ducks lay. When I walked in and said Mary sent me with duck eggs she was like you only brought 1 dozen, there are 8 of us here, can you get 8 dozen a week, I was LMAO...no ma,am, but i can give you what I have. They were like you bring every duck egg here and we buy from you. Looks like my ducks will be paying their own way after all. Also, going to the sale tonight to see hat ducks they have there. Wish me luck.
