I'm needing your advice. We are new duck owners and have four rouens about three months old. Two female & two males. This morning we heard loud quacking and discovered one duck missing. A tiny weasel had taken it into our woods and had its fangs wrapped aroud its neck. We scared it off and the poor girl came running back to us. We washed her neck wound and put Neosporin on it, and put all the ducks back onto their safe night cage. Everything seemed ok at first, but now we have noticed the other three are pecking/attacking the injured one. It has retreated to its little house and is staying in there. It isn't extending its neck at all, and is quivering a little. It has fresh food, water, and bedding. We decided to separate it from the others so it would be less stressed, but now it is quacking loudly like it is scared and wants the others back. We are clueless...what should be our next step? We've set a trap for the weasel, by the way. Thank you.

Birds will peck at any open wound, and therefore make it worse. You can however put something on the wound so the others don't mess with it. Blu-kote is one people use I think
Thank you. It appears that they are pecking/attacking the entire duck and not just the wound. The wound has crusted over nicely and has antibiotic ointment on it. I feel like I need a duck psychologist.

It isn't working. The BluKote covered the red spot but we haven't been able to have the four rouens together without them all instantly pecking on the little guy. He has a swollen neck and rests his head on his body so is obviously in pain and healing. We keep him in his own cage outside during the day and in our garage at night to help him rest. But he is very upset to not be with his buddies. He follows them around at every opportunity until they gang up on him and he plays dead in the grass. Plus, he hasn't eaten a thing for over 72 hours. At a total loss. I've spent the majority of my day babysitting four ducks...while my four kids fight in the house. K
Jk...they are on duck babysitting, too.
