Ducks Vs. Chickens?

Ok, so once they are adult? size, they would be ok in the pond? Can they be yarded with chickens? We are planning to build a new/bigger chicken coop and I am wondering if we could combine them in the yard but have separate coops?
I tried to have ducks with chickens together but if you have a female with a rooster or a drake and a rooster don’t keep em together, IMO

Thank you @Table4Six ! Wow, I can see how they are similar but also differ so much from chickens. We lock our chickens up at night, so would do the same for ducks. We also have a couple of large snapping turtles in that pond. This is frustrating, I hate that we have this great big pond they could be enjoying but would have to do something different for them. They sound so fun!

When mine free range, they eat bugs, and anything else they can find. They have water close by, but they tend to not use it when free ranging. When eating the crumble in their coop they will take a bite, get a drink of water and then shake everything around. It gets a bit messy, but that is just the duck way! Haha
Ha ha!! but they are so cute they can get away with it!

This can definitely be a risk. I do not have a rooster, but I do have two drakes and have never had an issue with them harassing chickens. Not that they should be, having twenty-six ladies all to themselves.

Ducks are awesome, and definitely a lot of fun. You could still free-range them on the pond every now and then, I do with mine even though there are turtles, but just under supervision.

They will try with chickens but as long as they have a big enough area to
‘free-range’ in it hopefully won’t be that much of an issue.

They do not need a drake. Females do fine in all hen flocks. What breeds are you looking in to getting?

I haven't even started researching to know what would work best for us. We have 60+ acres, so space or noise isn't an issue. We both work full-time, so they would be confined until the evenings when we get home, but also let out on weekends. We dont have drastic winter weather here, so that is the setting we have to consider.
