Ducks without water overnight?

I found water buckets that plug into AC that we used for our ducks and chickens last winter and will be buying more of for the geese and turkeys and guineas this year. They seemed to work great and we never found them frozen in the morning. You just have to keep them out of direct wind but not necessarily inside.
Central Virginia does not get as cold as many other areas of the country though.
We got our from Southern States.

If you are in a mild climate sometimes keeping the water bucket under an overhang of some kind can help fend off light freezing.

Where i am i put the horses water buckets in their stalls and they don't freeze until it gets very very cold.

With the birds and shallower dishes, we just have to give them drinks a few times during the day as mid winter they freeze solid.

I raised my geese and ducks together starting from day 1, and have never had a problem with them getting along. The gander doesn't even pick on the ducks, though all the geese tend to pick on my muscovies, which were added about eight months later, and on the chickens a bit, which have their own pen, but they free range together. When I put out food the geese can be bossy and nudge the muscovies and chickens away, but they've never hurt the other birds. I think if you started with goslings in the spring and raised them with the rest of your birds that things would be totally fine, adding adult birds to your flock may be more difficult as they establish pecking order, though.

I love all my birds, even the noisy, obnoxious geese--they're so pretty!

Tell me about it!

But in my case, that's a good thing! I have trouble sleeping at night (lot of nerve pain issues) and I love to listen to the ducks, so I moved a kiddie pool under our bedroom window. You would think they would be noisy, but it's like they know the rest of the world is sleeping so they quietly splash and girls sing in very hushed tones and purrs. Sure beats taking sleeping pills every night...

I feed my ducks at night in order to get them into the pen I shut them up in to keep them safe during the night.

If you're gonna feed them, the definitely need water. However, having said that, I'll show my ignorance publicly and let you know that one night I forgot to unscrew the cap to my 5 gallon waterer and the ducks and geese went all night without any water.

They all made it thru the night just fine but when I opened the gate to the pen, they made a beeline toward the water tank and drank like they hadn't had a drink in a week!

I wouldn't make a habit of doing that. Couldn't have been good for them.

God Bless,
