Ducks won't get in the pond

Hi,

I realize this post is very old however I was wondering if you ducklings ever made the transfer. I am currently dealing with the same issue. My ducks are three months and my pond is the size of a swimming pool. No turtles a few tiny fish.

I haven't had any more problems with the ducks not going into the pond. I have different geese now and several sets of ducklings that all went in fairly soon after having access. Probably because they see the other ducks in the pond. The little beach we built has disappeared from all the duck drilling action, but we still have a ramp made from a pallet covered with roof shingles.

I too had a similar experience. My ducks were given to me young (about 2 months) they are free ranging during the day but are penned at night. I have never had ducks so knew nothing about them.

One of the ducks went into our pond and never came out. I found her body in the pond, something was pulling at the body. I suppose a turtle. Never could get the body to find out. Needless to say my ducks will NOT go in the water. They will stand with one foot in but the other is always on dry land. I keep a small kiddie pool up by the house for them.

I guess they remember things like that.

You can rid your pond of snapping turtles by going on line there is lots of info.
