Hello, I have a wild Pekin duck who has been sitting on 8 eggs in our tree since July 17, almost 6 weeks now. She won't let us near her to check the eggs, and she only leaves her nest very briefly to bathe in the lake, and we feed her bird seed. We are worried for her health spending so much time brooding and what should we do with the eggs if they are infertile or dead? Thank you!

Hi and welcome to BYC :frow A good 24% game bird feed might be helpful. @Ravynscroft What are your thoughts about a wild broody? I've never dealt with one before. @Kikipee When you get a sec, pop over to new member introductions and introduce yourself. Again welcome and glad you joined us.:ya

Most likely feral not wild... I would remove any bad eggs asap... check them as soon as she gets off for a break... be very, very careful of stinky eggs, those can explode...

Isn't 6 weeks too long to be sitting on her eggs? Shouldn't she know whether they are fertile or not?

It's definitely a Pekin IMG_4276.JPG
