Thats good to know.... I got 3 ducklings today and from looking at pictures they look more like white pekin babies than the others (I'd have liked a colored one or two but I want eggs and will use the adults for herding practice with my acd) Hope to heck and back that I got more girls than boys! <g>

at what age do pekin ducks start to lay? and how can you tell a male from a female?

a male have the feathers of the tail, up, and a female down, i raise ducks

My Pekins started to lay eggs at 4.5 months or 18 weeks. I have 3 females and 3 males. The ones who sound like they actually "Quack" are the females the ones with a more raspy voice are the males. Also the drake feather is a sure sign but it does take awhile for that them to show. Hope that helps

Btw I ended up with 2 girls and a boy & one girl stared laying at 17 weeks the other still hasn't started and she's 23 weeks... I got a few Cayuga's (females) a week after the Pekins and as of today all three are now laying. So just waiting for the last pekin... And all my ducks will be laying!! (still waiting for most of my chickens to start!)
