DUCKS

Thank you...corn too, I should have known. I think I'm going to have happy spoiled ducks and that's fine with me!

I agree to be careful with the fly paper. If it falls down into the pen . . .yikes.

I use hanging fly traps (the kind you add liquid to), and started this year with fly predators, little tiny flying bugs that kill fly larvae.

Hi in your initial post you said the were skittish and you wanted to bond with them more. I have 2 ducks which i hatched myself and although they will never leave eachothers side, from the moment they were born they wont leave my side either. their one year old now and literally cry and quack constantly if there no with me or sitting on me. the most important part was literally the first few days and weeks but right now just dont be afraid to handle them. hold them and sit them on your lap whilst you watch tv and let them realise your mummy duck. mine when they were small would cuddle ontop of me and sleep. they hate water and the usual duck things. they have an expensive taste and will never eat bread, they hate it. they dont eat corn or beans or anything. theyll eat tomato and cucumber and sweet peppers but only if i hand feed it to them and they seem to get along with pellets. no question on mealworms. if my ducks dont god absoluetly crazy for mealworms theres something seriously wrong. just give them treats when they stay in your lap and let them want to sit on your lap it may take some time but its **** worth it

Thank you for all that information! I love the pictures of your ducks and especially the one who rests in your hand...amazing! We got our ducks when they were about 2 weeks old so that really early bonding time wasn't there but I've been working with them. Things are going good, I spend time with them outside and of course have treats for them.

I have 2 cayugas...not sure what sex they are yet so no names yet...just call them "my baby ducks" and they seem to like that.
Pond plants are nice looking but the ducks can demolish them in just a few minutes...found that out the hard way...lol
They just love grazing in the weeds and of course any bugs that happen to pass by.
Have fun with your ducks! I am! They are quite entertaining
