Dull, lethargic chick

I also put apple cider vinegar, garlic and a little vitamin c in the water before you said no vitamins, ehould I empty and just do plain water?
We usually put that stuff in the water when one of our chickens has a cold and it helps there immune system, so I just thought it might help a little but maybe not right now

First, no worries about the coccidiosis medicine being absorbed. As long as she drinks, it's getting into her system.

Can you determine if her crop feels hard and lumpy or soft and squishy? A full crop prevents a chick from being hungry, so it's important to empty it.

If it's lumpy, you may need to give her a teaspoon of oil, coconut oil in its solid form is least messy and safest, and then gently massage the crop in a circular, upward motion until you feel the crop empty. You may need to repeat the oil and massage a time or two.

Can you see what her poop looks like? If it's whiteish, you may need to treat with an anti-yeast medicine such as miconazole or Nystatin, the latter you may get a prescription for from your vet. The miconazole can be found at the pharmacy in the women's hygiene products. A quarter inch of the miconazole cream twice a day for a week will treat the yeast infection. Give her probiotics as you treat to help restore a good flora in the crop. Hold off on vitamins until after the coccidiosis treatment is finished.

I don't know what your vet treats coccidiosis with but, amprolium is the only medicine I know of that knocks out coccidia parasites by blocking thiamine, one of the B vitamins. Thiamine is the B vitamin that coccidia thrive on and need to multiply. B-12 doesn't affect the situation one way or another, but it does little or nothing to get rid of coccidia and their eggs.

The medications she's on is: Toltazurol (once a day for 3 days then repeat in 3 weeks)
And a antibiotic tablet combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic.
I have never heard of any of these but the bird vet I went to has a really great reputation so I think I'll just have to trust what she's chosen.
Amprolium sounds very useful in treating coccidiosis though

There appears to be many medications besides amprolium, of which I was previously unaware, that all treat coccidiosis by preventing the coccidia from getting the nutrients they need for their life cycle, starving them. Are you in the USA?

I missed your report on the condition of her crop on the previous page, so I'm commenting on it now. It doesn't especially sound like impacted crop. But the oil can't hurt with a gentle massage.

The important thing is to check the crop first thing in the morning. If it's emptied overnight, it's all good. If it's still soft and squishy and partially full, you probably need to treat for sour crop. It won't interfere with the coccidiosis treatment. If you can get her crop back to normal, she's going to feel so much better, and most important, she should then get her appetite back, and that will get her strength back.

I'm in Australia

I've done more massaging and the crop has started emptying :) I'll check it first thing in the morning to make sure it fully empties.
Her appetite has also increased and she's drinking lots of water too, she also went for a small walk outside today while I was cleaning her cage, she ate grass and slept in the sun.. I can tell she's still sick but I think the medicine is really helping. she's looking so much better, yesterday she could hardly stand up or open her eyes so it makes me so happy seeing so much improvement :) hopefully she will keep improving

Thank you everyone for your comments. My little girl has made a 100% recovery, I couldn't be happier :)
