I have 52 chicks that are almost 2 weeks. They are on 1/2" wire since my tractor is not finished. I have a few that have started to stick their legs through the wire up to and past the joint on the leg and then get stuck! What a pain. Hopefully they will move to the tractor this week.

Try to get them to the tractor ASAP. Cornish X should not be kept on wire because of their fast rate of growth and because they are already prone to leg problems.

OK, so I put some 1/4" mesh down in part of the brooder until I can get them in the tractor. I made sure the food and water on on this wire so those who have the falling problem will not have to fall through any more, unless they get off the smaller mesh. Did I say they were dumb? I don't have this problem with my dual purpose boys! Not sure if these are worth it yet. Time will tell.

Believe me they are worth it. It seems as if CX are one of those birds either you love them or you hate them there is no middle ground. I love them, I have no issues with laziness, smell, stupidity, or any other problem that others seem to complain about. Just remember they are for meat, grow them for about 6-8 weeks and off with their heads. Eggs layers are kept around for a while and became "pets". There is no comparison.

Sorry, I'll get off my high horse now.
