Our roo and his `echo' (our crowing hen) wake me up between 04:30-05:15. Not so much a duet as a call and response (roo first, then hen, then roo... for about ten minutes). If I don't get the coop open by 07:00 the roo repeats and all the hens start with the `insistent' whining.
During day/evening the roo: Announces visitors/gives the `what for' to the other roos in the distance/lets us know that it is time to get out so the harem can bug hunt/might take note of sundown-might not.
