How DO eggs get salmonella (sp?)

Is there anything your supposed to do to avoid it or what. I have no idea

I know one way is if they are washed or get really wet they can lose their "bloom" thus setting them up to go "bad"

One way is from the mother via the egg, then passed on to the daughter's eggs, so it is not always avoidable.
