Tonight will be my chicks first night in the coop. It's hot outside. Windows stay open, I'm assuming, or do I close them?

It's not a stupid question, we all worry about things like that sooner or later.

If your windows are predator-proof when open, I'd say at least leave half of them open. If they are staying outside already, they should be okay with a slight breeze.

If you have predator-proof wire across the windows, I would say yes.
P.S. it's not a dumb question

yes, leave the window open IF you have wire across them. and chicken wire might not be enough. hardware cloth is better.
I have a fan in my coop all summer also.

As I tell my son, there are no dumb questions, not asking though...

Even I learned something from your question. I need to use hardware cloth on our coop we are in the process of building...did not know about this!

Thanks for asking

As was mentioned, are the windows predator proof? How old? How warm? I know Tx can have very cool nights and hot days this time of the year. If its cool, you can close the windows until they acclimate to the new surroundings and climate. They are quick to adapt also. They'll be a bit nervous the first night but get into the groove pretty fast.
