Back on the subject of dumb things, I just found out that my father-in-law feeds his chickens wild bird seed. He says its better for them. Um? No. Just no.
I give it to them as a once-in-a-while treat. But not as their feed!

Best to find a local beekeeperMy favorite grocery store sells honey that is produced by farms in nearby regions. Not exactly local, but mostly the same plant life in both areas, so it's still better than the most other honeys.
There are a few, but they don't harvest or sell in winter. Truly local honey won't be available for another month or two.Best to find a local beekeeper
I'd try to explain why chickens need chicken food. Give him some chicken nutrition explaining. He gives it as their feed. No wonder he is always calling me wanting to know whats wrong with this hen or that one. He was getting rubber eggs so I gave him oyster shell and they stoped. I didnt know he was feeding them bird seed

Maybe he could compromise and find a healthier more natural food that isn't crazy expensive? Or he could mix his own food? People mix their own but not bird food
