Gave some eggs to a friend. Her father wouldn't eat the green ones because the doctor too him to avoid "greens".

He's quite literal, isn't he.

So my sister in law grew up on a farm and they had chickens but never really cared for them correctly and thinks she knows everything there is to know about them... When I told her I had bantams she told me she had one once. I asked her what kind and she said "a bantam". Like I was an idiot. BC all bantams are the same. Lol so I explained and showed her all of my bantams. Her response was these are all the same breed bantam? I gave up. Some people.

Maybe your sister wasn't as far off as you may think. Back in the dark ages when I grew up in a rural setting, we, of course, had chickens. There were three kinds, white egg layers, brown egg layers and meat chickens. (And white eggs came from the store. Brown eggs from the farm.) A bit later I had a flock of RIR's for 4-H.
But back to the bantams, I had bantams as pets, just bantams. They had no designated name. Then my cousin gave me two cochin bantams. I was mesmerized by the feathered legs so I had bantams and two cochins.
Carrying over into adulthood, we started with a flock of brown egg layers then twice we had small flocks of RIR's which didn't procreate because we had no rooster.
Then I started studying chicken breeds, didn't know there were that many and it took off from there.
BTW, our local hatchery sells only meat birds, RIR's, leghorns and some kind of sexlink or production layer.

@dekel18042 my sister in law is 22 lol but I appreciate the info and trying to give her an excuse. It was that she didn't know so much as it just didn't get through even when I explained.

I have a friend who's nephew told her (she has chickens) he doesn't eat the eggs that come from chickens he only eats the one they "make" at walmart . Sigh..

I would have laughed really hard at this if it wasn't for the fact that I've heard similar things from folks over the last few years. It's surprising to me how disconnected we are as a society when it comes to knowing, or not knowing, where our food comes from.

@RichnSteph in just glad my children understand the cycle of life. And know that veggies come in an array of colors other than the standards of the grocery store. My daughter brought some hard boiled green eggs to school to show her friends for a snack. They didn't believe they came out that color. They told her she must have dyed them.

My coworkers found out I have chickens and one older lady ask me how many eggs do I get per hen a day, I replied to her should be 1 egg per chicken a day. She looked at me funny and proceeded to say "just one per hen? I thought they should lay multiple a day" I replied back, you only layed 1 egg a month when you were younger, now no more! what do you expect from my hens? The entire group exploded in laughter.
