I believe the breed is a croad langshan, could be wrong. Sussex eggs should not be be purple. Weird. It isn't even a common color to mix with.

I've got an Australorp that lays cream eggs with purple specks.

I got a purple egg it's one of my phony ones to get the girls to lay and it worked the best of all the colors I had

Or mauve? The photo doesn't do it justice, it was darker. It's the third row down, fourth egg from the left. It's from a heritage breeder and it was marked Sussex. I've never seen an egg that color...I so wanted the chicken that was inside of that egg. Darn.
