Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat - Part 2 : Chicken Boogaloo.

Pics
***Correction. Apologies. I looked at the book again and these are generally marketed as "painted tetras" not the trademark glo fish serves me right for posting that late at night lol.

My mistake our local store sells them in the same tanks. I have not done enough research specifically into glo fish and now plan to do so. Thank you for pointing that out. I do know that certain fish and such can have natural bioluminescent properties. These fish are usually deep see or cave dwelling fish. However I do not know if anyone has ever placed these fish in a tank.

This is not my photo but a picture of "painted tetras"

That's okay, it's understandable!! You definitely should, i never looked into it until you said it and the history part on the wiki page is pretty interesting :)

Anyway, I'm not sure if our store sells painted tetras or not though the second pic does look familiar, like i may have seen that kind before, if so that is just sad and cruel and should be illegal. :( especially since i think there are glo fish tetras now, they have a few species now, so no need for painted ones.

I think originally glo fish were developed to detect pollution and then some geniuses consulted the scientists and are now probably making millions or billions I'm sure LOL especially with all the glo fish branded tank accessories now too. The accessories Tetra makes with rights to use the name but I'm sure they still get paid. They've got tanks and lights and fake plants and all sorts of the usual accessories. I'm sure that makes more than the actual fish at this point. Geniuses, I swear. I see glo fish everywhere i go, even Walmart sells them. Its got to be huge business now. That part I'm not sure i agree with, even if the glowing is done ethically and they reproduce naturally now supposedly they're profitting hugely off an animal

I have gone back and corrected my original post and made corrections to the above ones as well. Again I apologize if I offended anyone. It was my mistake.

Again not my photo. This is an image of one type of glass fish in its natural undyed state.

Its okay, you didn't offend me i just had never hesrd of the dyeing thing so googled glo fish to,see how they wrre made and found all the counter info, thats all :) i probably sounded like a jerk though so,sorry

Oh and as for the deep sea fish i actually have heard some aquariums and such have tried to keep them but they dont do well because of the extreme pressure from that deep in the ocean so when they're brought up i think they usually die from the rapid pressure change or they die shortly after in the aquarium becsuse it's like impossible to replicate that kind of pressure. And also the pitch dark is really hard to do too. So yeah. I don't think people try anymore

Okay firstly I'm not an expert but I do love fish tanks and fish and have read several books on all things fish including breeds.
My apologies I was originally misinformed and mispoke as to the fish I was talking about. They are generally called painted tetras not glofish, I was wrong I admit that. That's what I get for posting very late at night. Our local store puts them both in the same tank and I was there for under the misconception that they were both dyed.

Those fish are normal every day colored fish(some being totally clear-search glass fish you'll find some of the fish they like to dye) that are dipped in an acid type bath to remove their natural protective slime coat they are then dipped in various harsh inks, or sometimes directly injected with the ink(glass fish in particular). This process is so harsh and cruel that only about 30-40% survive it from what I've read usually less and only a handful of those ever survive much more than another year. For this reason I feel these fish shouldn't be sold at all. Plus glass fish are cool! Now I do believe certain fish are naturally neon colored but to my knowledge glow fish are not. If you want brightly colored fish I urge you to get neon tetras, pristella tetras, fancy guppies, mollies, or platies(platy) instead. There are so many other healthier choices that don't have to be tortured to create their beauty. Look into it there are many other amazingly colored fish.
Wow starlings really?! I didn't know they were an invasive.

Its understandable, especially if theyre in the same tank. I hope people skip the painted tetras and get regular fish or glofish

I may have heard of something similar too but the ones in the caves close to the surface I think they could do probably. Idk if it would be ethical though. I guess it depends on if they could just take a few from the wild and breed them in captivity so the wild numbers aren't wiped out for profit. It would be super super cool to have a legitimate bioluminescent fish in my tank!! Especially if they were like the plankton and squid and jellies you see in the deep sea discovery type documentaries that show all kinds of colors and patterns/rythms and such.

Oh yeah, the ones closer to the surface you probably could. I think they had tried with the ones way at the bottom though which obviously didn't go so well. But yeah, would be great to have some naturally colored fish. And actually, i think there might be other species besides deep sea ones that are naturally florescent. As well as other animals like reptiles and amphibians and such. There's tons of other animals in nature that eother are florescent or use it sometimes. The FAQ page i think lists some. Its cool how many there are

It's really too bad that the deep sea fishing can't be brought up alive that would be so very very cool!

It really is! I would love one or at least to see one in an aquarium lol maybe they should start a tourist thing to go down there. I mean, they might start or already have one to space so why not? LOL
