Oh yes, GMO definitely past veggies. Seen the flourescent zebra fish for sale in the pet stores? I believe they have a gene spliced in from a jelly fish.

I'm afraid we don't have any pet stores out where I live, so l'm a bit behind the curve. Just what, exactly, is the purpose of genetically engineering these fish?

Pretty colors. The fish are bright neon colors that fluoresce under a blacklight. And GMO salmon has just recently been approved for sale at grocery stores. They have not managed GMO birds or mammals though.

Last I heard, the GE salmon were growing at a much faster rate than normal salmon, and reproducing at a similar rate, causing them to outnumber nature's version. Although they were to have been confined to fish farms, the system wasn't fail safe, and they're taking over in nature.

There are many, many more questions than answers in this scientific frontier which, for me, is scary. Until we have a better understanding of the possible recupercusions, it might be wise to slow down. Way before playing genetic roulette, people have been transporting plants and and animals across the world with disastrous consequences: e.g., kudzu, Australian pine, maleluca, African frogs, and Burmese pythons (think Everglades), just to name a few poorly thought out decisions. Just imagine the havoc we can create through the reengineering of life forms.
