Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Bet if we did a poll, many of us who have chickens are somewhat recluse. My chickens are more interesting than many people I have met..

And they love me just because….I'm the keeper of the mealy worms.

Recluse here, checking in. I have to give you a x100 on "My chickens are more interesting than many people I have met". I get bored with a lot of people and have no patience with them. Now my chickens, I can spend all day with them and have a wonderful time. We have the most interesting conversations.

And I believe when any animal 'loves us' it's because they know we can be trusted to care for and about them. (Of course, mealy worms DO help!)

Mine know they will get afternoon treat tray after all have layed for the day. They look like a picket line prancing back and forth with excitement! So funny. And be very careful carrying in the tray, 2 are great jumpers...

Aren't chickens just awesome? I am in awe of them every single day.

I really do tire of those who find out I have chickens ---cause I have to show them my girls in the live IP camera--- those folks who ask why would you want chickens? I answer, why not? I love the folks who laugh and tell me they would love to get some. Guess I'm just prejudiced for chicken lovers...

Hey, anyone can raise a dog or cat...we do CHICKENS!

Why is having chickens any more odd than someone having a pet turtle or a horse or a goldfish? I don't get it and really don't much care. I just think they are blind to the fact that birds are interesting, beautiful and entertaining. Those are pretty much the reasons why anyone has an animal (I'm not talking dairy farmers and ranchers here, just your ordinary citizen).

When I was trying to decide to get chickens I read no more work than having a house cat. I do love my house cat, but the chickens are actually easier to care for.

When I started wanting chickens, truly I never realized how beautiful they are…and certainly never knew they would have uniquely different individuals personalities. They have broadened my life in so many unexpected ways.

The real difference is no matter what, it does cost more to provide them a safe comfortable home then most folks offer their dogs or outdoor cats. But I am certain, chicken food is cheaper than fancy cat or dog foods. And we could sell chicken poop if we wanted to…but I covet mine.

But really, joining BYC and meeting you guys has been an honor.

Well said, and I agree, chickens are beautiful, mysterious souls. And this forum is the best!

Also, nobody is getting my chicken poop! It's primo fertilizer and I have a huge garden that will need it! Lol!
