reminds me of the line in the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", when Aunt Voula (sp) says "What you mean, he don't eat no meat?!?! oh well, thats' OK, I make lamb..."

OMG MY MOM WAS WATCHING THAT A COUPLE OF MINUTES AGO!!!

Not about chickens but:
My good friend's mom really really wants to grow everything for themselves, raising their own meat, etc. Well, guess where their chickens are? At my house because they kept forgetting to feed them! So, they thought maybe a milk cow would be easier. So they got a Black Angus bucket calf from her step-dad's cousin. So, my friend was proudly showing me her "cow". I then informed her that it was a bull calf. She says, "Oh, so that's why we haven't gotten any milk!" Umm, I hope you didn't try to milk it, because not only is it a bull, but it is also only a few weeks old.. Her mom didn't believe me though, and they kept it. She also refused to castrate it. How to you not realize, from the moment you caught it in the pasture that it was a bull?!?!? It's really not that hard to figure it out!!!!! So, they're still waiting for fresh milk.

Typical American :i sorry we americans dont know the difference between a bomb and a cat.

So, what youre saying is... no milk?

The only misunderstood thing I've heard was that people think you have to have a rooster with your hens to have eggs.
Me " Actually no you don't."
Them "Really?!"
Me "Yep."
Them "Cool!"

Oh well, maybe I thought that once. :)

But before we had chickens I didn't know there were different breeds! And I thought roosters crowed only once a day. Sorry but you are WRONG! But at least I can laugh at myself now. Laughing and having animals makes you live longer. I will probably live longer than anyone else. But then I might find out I'm wrong on that too! :)

Here's a funny one. I have a friend whose husband owns a ranch (she says her husband because she doesn't have much to do with the ranching). This is Texas, a real ranch with hundreds of acres devoted to letting livestock graze freely. She is a cancer survivor so they raise their cattle as free range grass grazing beef with no hormones or steroids. I was talking to her about buying a calf from her husband so we could feed it out to eat. I said it would be good for the kids to be responsible for taking care of it and I want to know what my beef is eating. She actually said, "oh no, that would be so hard for those kids to raise an animal just to eat it! I couldn't do that!" O---M---G! Seriously. They raise beef cattle!!!! I guess since her husband does all the work, she is only slightly less removed from her food source as those that think meat comes from a store magically.

They do milk bulls but not for the way and reason of your friend's mom is thinking of. I am trying to keep this pg and I cannot figure any "kinder" "gentler ways to say this so I apologize if I offend...
