I actually had a woman come up to me at the farmer's market ask to see my eggs and when she saw they were brown said she didn't want any eggs that weren't white. and "Why don't you have white eggs?" My reply "Ma'am I don't have any because the chickens I have hatched from brown eggs and that is the kind they lay."

wow.

this isnt chicken related but today at school, I had one of my clocks and i was working on it at lunch. I got so many dumb comments, like "What is that?" or "Is that a bomb?!?!" It is so sad that people dont know what the heck a clock is.

from all the csi ncis and related shows I am surprised they never thought a cell phone and cars where bombs or ied's....

The boys almost always have the same amount of aggressiveness as their dad.
Oh darn....I wasn't aware of that.....will have to rethink then. I just need another standard size rooster, and would love a really pretty one....if possible. I have a silkie rooster and a bantam brahma rooster. They just aren't big enough to handle the larger hens. My silkie will mount the leghorns, but they are a little closer to his size.

I've been told "I'm not eating those eggs because I know what your chickens eat" Mine free range and LOVE their grasshoppers. At least I know what they are eating.

What bothers me more than the ignorance over the terminology and production of the eggs is the flat-out hostility you encounter when you dare to ask a fair price for your eggs. A good example is when a neighboring vendor at Farmers' Market had a customer nearly have a fit over the $2.50 a dozen, exclaiming that she could get eggs for $1.75 at Wal-Mart. Even when we explained to her WHY they cost more than Wal-Mart's eggs, she still glared at us like we were asking for her first born or something, all over seventy-five cents difference...

My dad and I charge $3 a dozen for our eggs locally, and more when he takes them into the city with him. Any less and we wouldn't be making any money at all. I will say this much, though--Once people TRY our eggs, they don't seem to mind at all paying what we ask for them! As my dad says, "The first dozen's free...."

for local fresh, $3/dozen is the going rate where i live. if they cost less, they aren't large or X-large eggs... your dad is a smart businessman. get 'em hooked with the first dozen for free... then they have to come back for more... we all know there is nothing as good as fresh eggs from happy chickens!

Yes the price is $5.59

LOL, I love my brother, he is an egg fanatic, and he told my husband he can't wait for our chickens to start laying 'cause the only time he ever gets them is when he visits family in Texas, and knows full well what fresh wholesome eggs taste like

And he will ALWAYS get free eggs from me, 'cause he gave me lots of plywood and 2X4's for the coops ;P Love him!

I got the egg colour determined by food one yesterday for the first time. What made her say that, I have no idea. All my chickens are kept together in a stable. How they can find different food is beyond me.

Well I've heard that too but it's referring to the yolk so maybe she misunderstood when someone was talking about that. Store bought eggs having pale yolks rather than the rich yellow of a free range. (Makes me wonder how much free ranging these so called store free range eggs chickens do)

Have to admit I'm one that also says cant eat my own chooks. As I always say, can't eat anyone I've met personally lol. Know it's dumb and all the rest but still can't make myself do it :).
