that is good info i'm def gonna keep chickens for egg eating. i'm new to raising chickens. had to build a coop (well renovated my daughters clubhouse) and run to keep them in. Just got materials today to do it right and bigger!

I got this one yesterday after informing my neighbor my roo started crowing and would be until he was big enough to goto freezer camp.
"You can eat roosters?"
I tried really hard to not give her an 'are you serious' look
Although, she did warn me that she knows nothing about chickens.

They are good neighbors, and I have far more good things to say about them than bad

yes I eat roosters, and also I eat hogs and bulls that have been castrated also. Might ask the next person who asks this how do you sex a fish? you eat fish right?

That came from the neighbor, who is the $$ person for the county 4-H and her husband is the VO-AG teacher as well as 4-H president. My response was not pleasant haha

Did they get there before or after the chickens? Reminds me of the nimwads who move next to a private/commercial airport and *then* want to have it shut down because it's noisy. Ummm ... didn't you see the planes when you were doing your "research" BEFORE you bought in that neighborhood?

When asking my friend to check on the chickens for me while we were gone for a weekend, she asked if there would be eggs to collect. I told her they were not laying yet, but she was welcome to look for eggs since it could be any day. I also told her that if she found an egg to take a picture of it and save it for me, since it would be the first egg!! She asked "What should I do with it?" My reply..."Hmmmmm...put it in the refrigerator?"

On fairness, they moved in before chickens....however, they have 4 acres with 21 cows on it that were not there when I moved here 10 years before them. I am a live & let live guy, but don't complain about my farm when you have a feed lot haha (btw, i have 15 acres LOL) I had to stop raising birds due to an illness...im over that and back at it.....just puzzles me that someone steeped in AG would complain when my place is clean and theres is knee deep crap with no grass haha

alyscr1913 we have idiots who don't research at all buy homes in our county and complain about the noise from a 100+ year old race track a 80+ year old airport noise and traffic. Also they complain they have bought property and built a home in an area the state will put an interstate through when the state has been vocal about the plans for almost 20 years, because the seller never volunteered the information and they never asked it's everyone's fault not theirs. Also I had a co-worker who got pregnant while on birth control, and she blamed the hospital because the never told her that anti-biotic meds could make her birth control ineffective, I asked her if they asked if she was asked if she was on any meds, she said she told them no, I asked what she thought the pill was then? she told me I was mean! Mean? you get a prescription from a MD take it to a pharmacy they give you a container of pills and a hand full of papers telling you all the side effects and how to take it and it's not a med.? and I am mean because even if it's not perhaps if it where me I'd tell them just in case it might be relevant in what pills they give me or that there may be something wrong with me because of me taking it and not a virus????
