LOL 7 biddies...

Exactly what I was thinking, but dared not say...

Someone should ask her if she kissed her babies when they were still FRESH.

lol. Also, this white egg/brown egg prejudice is beginning to demonstrate to me how white folks back in the day could so gullibly believe black folks were tainted or not even human. I've always wondered how a color change so deeply impacts perceptions.

Excellent point! Plus, it's egg discrimination.

These were the same people that had the black folks raise and even wet nurse their babies. Boggles the mind, doesn't it? On this same note, in the 1700's there was the same debate in some quarters about women. That women were a separate and inferior species from men. In your spare time, try to figure that one out.

My Bofriends' Mother and I gave my chickens a few worms from the garden a couple weeks ago and laughed as they went bonkers over them!!! Fast forward to this past weekend... I took my 11 week old girls, who are currently in my garage, out into the front yard to nibble at grass, eat bugs, and enjoy the nice day we were having. My Boyfriends' Mom comes out to watch them with me and turns and says, "We should give them some grapes." I go, "We will when I put them back in the garage. I want them to eat grass and bugs while they are out here." She goes, "Chickens don't like grass and bugs." All I could do was stare at her. Worms? Remember? Helloooo?!!!

Yes You are correct, and if the lady knew how fish eggs where fertilized that would explain her confusion on how bird eggs are fertilized, trying to translate one spiecies actions does not always reflect how another spiecies acts in nature. Some things translate some don't. Until someone told me outright I never thought about the fact you HAD TO breed a goat or cow to get milk and then I realized duh they are mammals too. I knew that had to happen to people but I never connected it to animals.

I was talking to my mother today, who is actually interested in my chickens and can't wait until they start laying so she can have her fair share of the eggs. I recently discovered i have 3 roos in the flock (they were all supposed to be pullets, but oh well i still got 30 girls!) So she asks if i will be having baby chicks, i said no I plan on collecting eggs everyday and not letting them sit the eggs. She asks if they eggs will be fertilized, i said possibly since they are in the same pen as the roos. Then she asks if chickens "actually have sex". She thought the hen lays the eggs then the rooster comes along and fertilis them. I said no, they actually mate, then the hen lays fetilized eggs. She didnt argue or anything, but i just thought it was a bit funny. I dont know where people learn this stuff!

I thought the exact same thing until reading this thread. I knew absolutely nothing about chickens! I just plain didn't know how it was done. lol

So, what color cow or carton does she insist her milk come from? How about her beef or pork; what color cows and pigs must they come from? If people would only think things through; they'd either get over their ridiculous biases, or starve to death and spare the rest of us.
lol I am going to have to ask her sometime about the cows. I imagine this has all sorts of possibilities for humor.
It really does make me wonder about a few things now that you ask.

Just take it to the next logical level. Baffles them every time, and the puzzled looks you get are priceless.

Do cars have to be a specific color, or will any color do?: as in, "I only ride in white cars". The egg shell is only a container, people!!! When I finally thought to put it that way to someone ("The shell is just a container for an egg, so the color doesn't matter."), they finally *got* it. They felt foolish, but at least they got it.

I love this thread! The only ones I have gotten are when I told someone that my Pullets were roosters, and she said, " oh that's good since you need a rooster to make the hens lay eggs right?" I then explained that I didn't. she actually laughed at her own mistake, and was not offended at all. The other was this young girl who said " NO I will not hold a chicken! They are soooo dirty and nasty" she also was grossed out by a warm egg! lol She did say she would hold a silkie though since they are cute. lol

My moms boyfriend came in when my chickens were out and said "your rooster kinda creeps me out"
Me "why's that?"
Him "I think he's a lesbian."
I don't even know where he got that idea from lol
