Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

I can't think of anything that is an analogy for giving birth that you can't say. So your response just seems rude to the person asking the question. Some things DO require a rooster. I did have to explain to someone that you do need a rooster to get chicks. So...

That certain person thought my eggs from the hens I don't have in contact with roosters were fertilized.

An earlier poster mentioned hatcheries throw away the males because they don't sell. Well, the females of the Cornish cross meat birds don't sell as well either so wouldn't that be the same? It seems a lot f people want the cockerels because they grow bigger.
There is a market for the female Cornish X. Some people prefer males but most don't care. The trouble with the males of the egg laying breeds is that is takes so much time and feed to get them up to anything approaching butcher weight that it simply is not economical to do so. Even then the carcass is on the scrawny side. Unlike the Cornish X they are not very efficient when it comes to converting feed to flesh.

And you responded that no, you don't need a rooster ... What did you think they meant by "give birth"? Lay an egg at all?

Okay, I'm confusing myself. So what I'm trying to say is I gave someone eggs from hens in my flock who have no contact to my roosters. She thought I was crazy, saying that hens didn't need a rooster to lay an egg. When she said "give birth" I think she meant a hen laying an egg. And what I said when she asked if you need a rooster for hens to "give birth" I said "No, do you need a human male for a human female to make eggs?" to put what I said what I think is the appropriate version of what I said.

some of the females probably do get thrown away, but most are butchered at about 2 - 2 1/2lbs for "Cornish hens"

I honestly would be shocked if its true that hatcheries just throw away male chicks. There's plenty of other uses for them as day old chicks or a few days or weeks old. They already invested the time to hatch the egg why would they throw money away?

It's too bad they can't breed into the birds a genetic disposition to lay 95% female :)

Lots of the male chicks may go to pet food makers.
