Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

The In-Laws lived with us for about a year and REFUSED to eat our eggs. They said that they didn't like the taste of the rooster's sperm as he must have sprayed too much over the top of them. We said, "WHAT?!" (They actually thought roosters fertilized eggs like fish). They continued filling our refrigerator with store bought white eggs. I also feed our chickens leftovers (including chicken) and they freaked out stating, "You can't feed them chicken...they'll get mad cow disease!!" Shouldn't they know better... they are 75 years old?!!! Here are our disgusting eggs and by the way, I enjoyed showing them my blue ribbons I've won for Best of Show & Peoples Choice Awards...though I doubt they care. :smack
Those egg baskets full of eggs are BEAUTIFUL!

it dawned on me a little while ago, you and I are on two different pages in this "discussion" im not arguing, just for the record. just discussing what could be done.

I don't know what we could be arguing about, I think we are actually on the same page.

I don't think you should feed your extra chicks to your dogs, a raw diet is not for everyone, and the whole prey style is not for everyone.

I personally haven't fed any of my extra male chicks to my dogs because I have been getting sort of fancy breeds and that would be wasteful :) theyre worth more as roosters.

The only point I was trying to make is that I personally am surprised the hatcheries throw away chicks. They are businesses whose goal is to make money. But I'm sure it happens I just think that's wasteful.

Actually, I know a man that had a pet rooster. It was born a little deformed and he just fell in love with it. It would roam around the yard with some of the other chickens during the day but at night it slept in their garage on a large parrot perch..... AND when his wife would go to work, he's sneek it in the house to watch TV with him. Even when it was outside with the other chickens, if he came out, this rooster would go hang out on the porch with this man.

It's important to note that domesticated dogs are not carnivores. The are omnivores. Wolves and other canines are carnivores. So when approaching the idea of a raw meat diet for your dog, you need to approach with caution. It's my experience that larger dogs have an easier time than small foo-foo dogs. I've seen a lot of gastro intestinal upset in smaller dogs. This can be dangerous.
With that said, I have two 20lb-ish dogs and when I am cutting up venison for jerky or whatever, I always feed them the bits I wont use AND the bones with bits of meat on them are distributed to the dogs and chickens. I dont give small bones to my dogs because I dont want to worry about bones splintering and their intestines being ripped. I've seen this happen- terrible way to die.

I actually overheard a lady at the grocery store tell the girl with her " No, just get a half dozen, I dont want them hatching in my frige."

So you actually think someone thinks giving birth and menstruating are the same thing?

Why are you freaking out? Geez. I explained several pages back the reason I was being serious about the comments.

You don't like to be rude? Give me a break. This entire thread is about being rude to people simply because they are ignorant. How would you feel if you asked someone a simple question and they made fun of you for not knowing the facts about something you had no reason to know? That is rude. Being sarcastic to someone for asking a simple question! That's rude.

As I said much much earlier - someone arguing with you about facts is fair game. Someone asking a basic question - not fair game. If you're mocking people for asking questions you're just plain mean, and deserve to have someone point it out.
Look, a human female menstruating is the same thing as a hen laying an egg, unfertilized. I truly feel sorry for the chickens going through that, on a near-daily basis, if not daily. That's why their egg-laying days are only for a few years. A human female has the same limitation, there are only so many ovum created at birth. The only thing different between a human female and hens (whatever species of fowl), is that a human female only goes through the egg laying every 28 days (on average), so the number of years is increased, substantially. No wonder a hen squawks so much when they lay their eggs... that is the equivalent, I'm sure, in pain that a human female goes through to deliver their babies (and btw, I've had 3 full-term deliveries, so I know the pain!).

What I have seen is that every time someone posts something about some of the comments they get about their chickens, you get defensive, and feel that it is necessary to correct that person. You don't know what the conversation was, or even if the person attempted to explain or correct the person, because you weren't there, and the person who posted didn't feel that it was necessary to have to give full details of their entire conversation. The point was... the dumb thing that was said, to begin the conversation in the first place. You corrected the person, and a heated debate was created, unnecessarily. That is the point of this entire thread... just to share the "dumb" things said. And sometimes, even explaining to someone the truth, to correct them, is futile, because they refuse to learn and accept the truth. My own DH is an excellent case-in-point. He has raised fowl, himself, since he was a young boy, and he even insists that you have to have a rooster for the hens to lay eggs. When I corrected him, all he said was "we'll see about that." I DID explain to him that in order for chicks to be hatched, we'd need a rooster, but not if we were only going to have the hens for egg production.

The point is... we are all intelligent, smart people that are on this thread, and try to educate others so the myths and fallacies are corrected to those that are uninformed. Please treat us with respect that shows that we do know what we are talking about.

And laugh or chuckle about them. Don't forget that part.
