Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

Silly people.  An egg..is an egg...is an egg!  I have roosters, and see no difference between a fertilized egg and an unfertilized one.

I have a confession to make: I won't eat fertilized eggs, so don't have roosters. I had to dissect so many developing chicken eggs in college that it just put me off the whole idea. It's like a food aversion, when you eat something (e.g. shrimp) and just happen to get sick afterwards. Your brain associates the last food you ate with throwing up after that, and it's hard to get over. It's a biological survival technique.

If you are at someone's house how would you know whether you are eating fertilized eggs or not? Do you inspect the broken eggs before they are cooked? Even if your host is cooking with store bought eggs it doesn't mean they aren't fertilized. Some people, like my mother, always buy fertile eggs.

Good point cassie...and I do understand where you are coming from 7 Biddies. I couldn't drink warm milk straight from the cow when I was 14. I was living with my aunt down in the ozarks, and they had cows, chicken houses, bees, and a bunch of other things. Me, I grew up with milk from a carton...iced cold.

Weirdest thing I couldn't eat was baby octopus....body, tentacles.... Nope, couldn't do it. Can't suck the heads of a crawfish either. But if you can't tell if the egg is fertilized or not.......nothing identifiable.....I'm game.

i offered eggs to a friend at work and she said only if they have no poop on them...well me being me, i cleaned them up and took a sharpie to them. every egg has "no poop" written on them.

hehehehehehheeheh, some of my egg buyers have to tolerate the name of the layer being pencilled on each egg and the date laid. I sometimes need to keep track of who is laying or if it's a new layer I need to memorise what her eggs look like so I CAN keep track of who's laying. So not uncommon to see Rosie, Dolly, Molly, Snowy, Effie, Tiffany etc on an egg
