I heard it again this morning from a woman I bought some "hatching eggs" from..
I asked about how many roos she had in with her girls (day 10 and NONE of the eggs are showing ANY signs of life at all)..

She replied "oh we don't want roosters.. they lay rooster eggs. We only keep hens so all the eggs will be girls..........."

sad thing is.. this isn't the first time I've been told this.....

Even for someone as goofy as me that makes ABSOLUTELY no sense. I've read it like 6 times and can come to no logical conclusion as to what this lady meant.

Just wow... think I will have to ask if people have roosters now before I buy hatching eggs..... sounds like thier hens conceive immaculatly.

I buy a lot of hatching eggs.. it always amazes me when the sellers assume they don't need a roo yet still swear they are selling "hatching" eggs... I've had a few try to explain to me that a rooster isn't needed for fertile eggs... all I can say is they must have some pretty magical chickens if the hens can lay fertile eggs with never having been with a roo...

I think one of the most interesting conversations was where the woman swore to me that if your purebred hen has been around a rooster of a different breed that ALL eggs she lays from that point on are "tainted" and you can never expect purebred eggs from her even after keeping her with a roo of the same breed... When I asked her how she came to that conclusion she replied "it's the same thing with dogs... once they are with a different breed they're ruined forever!"... I think my jaw hit the floor on that one...
