Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

We have a ton of hawks even a few eagles, nor do I trust the vultures. I built a large run and have it covered. And when they are on turn out time it is supervised. So far so good :p

My run is covered but they so prefer to free range that it is cruel to keep them in and I can't be out there watching all day! My big pit saved one from a hawk but he sometimes sleeps and is not vigilant. I am making shelters out of big electrical cable spools right now, so hopefully when all the leaves fall off the trees they will have somewhere to duck into. If they will only use them. Food treats inside, no? : )

that is a brilliant idea. My yard looks like an obstacle course lol.

The rest of my property is horse pasture so obsatcles= vet bill :p Mine seem happy in their space and often a 30 minute turn out seems adequate.. but They can get out of the pasture and coyotes, dogs, neighbors. would hurt them, plus they like my front yard... my garden.. I had to replant my bean 3 times.. -_- forget that. They just get a ton of weeeds and scraps and their yard is pretty big. 22x18, plus their barn.

They are cute though XD My husband was adamant against chickens but guess who I find bringing in eggs.. getting up early to feed when he's home, and sittin in his lawn chair Chickensitting on his own will.... several times a day ha ha ha.

sometimes it makes me wonder as a parent, what are the other parents teaching their children??? my husband doesn't want me to talk about sex around my 14 year old step daughters friends--my comment was, if they are already talking about it or asking questions, it is the prime time to slip in information and make them feel comfortable enough to ask questions. I just forewarn the parents that if the topic comes up, I don't skirt around it and I advise the girls to talk with their moms and be open.

i have one mom that doesn't really like the idea because she believes the school makes the kids desensitized to sex and that there is no mystery left to it. i managed to get one daughter to 18 and still a virgin so i figure i will give the information to the 2nd along with her friends. and believe me, my kids know what comes out of each hole.

are some people silly enough to think that if a child wants to do something bad enough they won't find a way to do it????
They seem to think that if they pretend it doesn't happen their child will never find out about it. They forget what it was like when they were kids, they knew about sex at the same age as kids now, there's no point lying about it, playground talk never changes.

For instance, when I was 10 we had our school sex ed video which was mostly about puberty and for us girls periods were a big part of it. The parents were invited in the previous evening to watch the video so they had a head start on fielding questions their kids might come home with. So the next day, the day of the video, this girl comes in and says "my mum told me this horrible thing last night about blood!" At this point, I was ON my period. I dread to think what would have happened to this girl if she'd been anything like me.

Do the green eggs have green yolks?
You can't eat the eggs if you have a rooster.

When I announced at my workplace I was leaving to be a homemaker and "homesteading" with chickens, I recieved comments such as "I would love to sit at home all day and watch TV." Or "I could never convince my husband to let me not work." Oh, people.

Green Eggs = Are they moldy? Can You Eat Them? Is the yolk green? Brown Eggs = I can't use them in my restaurant because the customers will not like the taste of the dark yellow yolks. But I will buy all of your white eggs. + You can't eat the eggs because you have roosters?? Won't some of the eggs have babies in them?? I have had people ask every one of these questions.

I would ask them if they have ever seen a moldy egg. Tell them to set one egg aside and see how long it takes for it to turn green. As for the dark yolks, tell them to watch a cooking show. I have watched several episodes of The Fat Ladies and the eggs they use are not only very large, but the yolks are a dark yellow. The same is true on other cooking shows too. As for babies in the fertile eggs, tell them to buy a dozen fertile eggs at Trader Joe's or some other store that carries fertile eggs and to and tell you how many babies they find in those eggs.

Does chicken TV count?
