Just think.... If chickens had the Internet they'd never get outside!
to bad we aren't talking about songbirds we could say they would spend all their time on twitter

So my cousin and mother accidentally mixed our flock with the neighbors, so they grabbed the ones they thought were ours and stuffed them into the coop.

The chickens know where the house is, it's okay.
I came home from college and was told to identify the chickens with my cousin repeatedly asking, "Are you they're ours?"

Lesson learned, need to tag my chickens and leave photos behind for them to double check everything.

Going out to close up the coop one evening.. and noticed we were missing our rooster Roy. After about an hour my husband found him a few feet from the driveway in the yard- limp- bloody... it was bad. Really, really bad.We didn't think he would make it.. so we took him to our house in town. I thought I explained this to my friends & family...

Well.. he pulled through but his leg is taking a long time to heal, so the last 2 months he has been our house chicken (in fact he's under my chair right now chattering away.) He's spoiled. He's a stalker (yes.. he's free roaming- yay for tile floors.) He's used to foraging.. and he hates pellets. So he will crow when he wants attention.. and really strain to crow loud when he wants treats. (He had 2 bowls of food out.)

Which really sucks when you are on the phone.. but before he gets that far he stomps around muttering and growling. So to avoid having my ear drums blown out I would just say
"Hang on a sec... the rooster wants grapes."

I have a bowl of them in the fridge.. I just roll them out across the floor so he has to wander a bit to find them. Gives me a little more time.

Anyways... now that he's feeling really good.. he crows a LOT. Impossible to have a phone conversation without him chiming in... and almost every one of my friends has said the same thing..

"Omg.. you do have an actual rooster in the house! I thought it was an inside joke or code for something I just didn't get..."

2 months... they thought I was speaking in code?

Too funny! It reminds me of a friend who had a cockatoo that would positively scream whenever she was on the phone. Those of us who knew thought it was hilarious.

we found a grey dove once, and when every my husband was on the phone he would coo, but it sounded like an owl and people would ask if we had an owl at our house.

I did that once but with sheep dogs (collies) My aunt has outside working dogs( that reside in a shed and run) and then there are the two inside dogs that weren't any good with the sheep so got spoiled rotten. I was looking after them one weekend when my aunt was away and I got two of them mixed up. One outside dog ended up inside over night, thought it was in paradise but next morning when I let the other dogs out I realised my mistake. She looked so sad and miserable, came and sat beside me and wouldn't leave me all day

One of my Mom's friends stopped by when our flock was a few months old. She was a self-proclaimed know-it-all on chickens as she had them growing up and when her kids were young. She called my Mom (who was in Europe visiting family -and hadn't seen the birds yet) and said..

Oh it's so horrible! Never saw mites so bad! All the feathers fell off of their heads! They might have a skin condition, it's disgusting! Those little birds are so sick they are making the most dreadful sounds! How can you be so cruel? They should be put down! The mites are going to give the dogs mange. The birds probably have worms and will give that to the dog too! I've never seen anything so bad in my life!

My Mother was flipping out.

I couldn't convince her the birds were all fine & healthy. She sent out a farmer friend to dispatch the plague ridden infested birds. He showed up- inspected the birds, then called my Mom to tell her that Know-it-all is a moron.

Here's a pic of the "diseased" birds...

If you are going to insist/claim you know everything about chickens... it's helpful to first identify a bird as a chicken.

Just sayin'... they're Guineas, not chickens.

Good grief.

That's just unbelievable! Busy body people. But why would your mom send somebody to your place to put down your animals? I would think you would be able to make that judgement call yourself.
