Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

that always makes me mad, we butchered 6 roosters today and a friend came over to help out.
he brought his 2 sons and daughter, when we brang the axe down and the head popped off
the kids freaked out and said "I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE REALLY GOING TO DO IT!!!!!! DON'T YOU FEEL BAD?!?!?!?!!?!?"
it was their dad who did it first, and they would not stop asking if he felt bad he said "you eat chicken don't you?" and they said
"yes but it's not real chicken." lol, if it doesn't grow off a tree then where does it come from?

It's just disconcerting to me that people are so..... disconnected from their food.
I feel closer to my food, and take more meaning from it if I have harvested it, whether from a crop I've grown, an animal I've raised, or game I have also harvested, all of which I do with the utmost of care. I hope my daughter can enjoy it that way too. I know when we say grace and give thanks for the meal it has real meaning behind it.

Oh Gimme....not only do I agree with babyfoot, but now I need eye bleach

to try to erase the image! We avoid SF like the plague and now there is one more reason to do so.

I just don't get how people who buy meat from their stores aren't vegetarians.

They are so cruel. It's less scary to me that people are so clueless about their food than the fact that once they learn "but they taste so good." And when I ask : "So you are saying that taste buds are more important than the torture and ultimate death of a living, feeling, being?" They say : "Yes." Or, if they want to justify it to themselves.... "Well... when you put it like that, I guess not. But I'm not going to stop eating meat."

That scares me. It makes me wonder what this world has come to.

If I had meat from my own chickens, from animals my family humanely hunted, I don't think I ever would have become vegetarian. Sadly, I've completely ruined meat for myself. Now that I'm veg, the thought of eating meat sickens me. Just the fact that it's flesh of a living being I CANNOT handle.

*Shudder.*

Personally, my view on eating meat is more religiously driven then anything else. (Muslim, btw, before we delve into that.) So long as I raised it, fed it and killed it, then it's mine to eat. That way I know that 1 - it is permissible for me to eat it and 2 - it was done, humanely.

None of that overly processed, barely mature chicken for me. Further, we culled our first roo today, it was fine. My parents made a good stew, I was able to witness the cull and do all my religion stuff for it and I am now able to tame my other roo without worrying about another one ganging up on me.

In contrast, my sister and my cousin called me a murderer for the majority of the day and refused to have a sip of the stew. Same people who claim that my brown eggs are 'unhealthy' and that they aren't good for consumption BECAUSE they don't come from the ruddy store!

Yeah sorry. I'm with the kids lol

My aunt when I was a kid told me to go inside if I didn't want to see her cut the head off the chooks. I wandered inside laughing to myself she thought I'd believe she would do that when the thud etc came from behind me.

We went to the cousins grandmothers house for dinner and I wouldn't eat the chicken dinner till they assured me it was a store chicken not a real one :)

I didn't think the store chickens weren't real but their deaths could be switched off through years of practice. Not so easy to do that with the one you heard being killed :/). And we are talking about kids afterall. That's a lot of reality when you weren't ready for it.
