Dumbest Things People Have Said About Your Chickens/Eggs/Meat

The coop is on her property a few miles away from us. She originally wanted it- so we built it (I was all for it as I wanted them too- but they are not allowed in town.) She ordered the birds- we drove out to the hatchery and picked them up.. and took care of them while she was away. She changed her mind about wanting them because of that nonsense- which didn't change much of anything for us because we were caring for them anyways.

She had 2 episodes so far of TIA... mini-strokes. (She's in her 70's.. and German.) She's fiercely independent- so this gives us a reason to stop by at least twice a day. It's just not bad enough yet for us to intervene and some family are in denial- so our hands are tied. We're the only family by her- the rest are in Europe.

Ahhh...I understand. She has veto power because it is her property. Thanks for clarifying.

Does she realize now though what guinea birds are?

My mother in law is the bane of my existence. Every time she comes to visit she has some negative comment about my chickens. She has taken it so far as she won't eat chicken if we serve it while she is here because she is horrified that it might be one that I "butchered". Unless I'm mistaken arnt all chickens that you eat butchered.....? She even asked me once how I got it all USDA certified because "it isn't safe to eat unless it is".

that always makes me mad, we butchered 6 roosters today and a friend came over to help out.
he brought his 2 sons and daughter, when we brang the axe down and the head popped off
the kids freaked out and said "I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE REALLY GOING TO DO IT!!!!!! DON'T YOU FEEL BAD?!?!?!?!!?!?"
it was their dad who did it first, and they would not stop asking if he felt bad he said "you eat chicken don't you?" and they said
"yes but it's not real chicken." lol, if it doesn't grow off a tree then where does it come from?

Maybe they will learn something about the meat they eat. It DOESN'T grow on trees, and the Safeway doesn't manufacture it. There was an e-mail that went around a while back from the San Francisco Chronicle (what else?) about how horrible people who hunted were, they should go to the store and buy meat there where no animals were killed. I mean...????????????????????????? This was a copy of the actual letter to the editor. So they may have been shocked, but they need to know the facts of life concerning their food. Better to live in the real world than a fantasy one. IMHO.

well com'on it was San Francisco after all... "Shhhhh! don't tell them the food at the grocery store...actually died. eeuh! gross!" what I think is gross is the nudists walking around the outdoor cafes while you are trying to eat. and them sitting on chairs.

I eat my own roosters too but it's when I do that I really do say a little grace before the meal and say THANKS. Sometimes it's hard to eat if I knew the rooster well but I am happier knowing they had a good life beforehand and not like the poor chickens in cages fed a diet to make them gain weight so much they can barely stand and then killed at only a few months old with hardly knowing what life is.

I totally agree, my sister (before we homeschooled) came home one day from school and wouldn't eat the deer we shot a few days back,
her reason why is she was told (by her TEACHER) that hunters only hunt because they love to kill things.

she was pulled out of school a month later.

the truth is, the meat we process is more well cared for, we cull only to feed our family, to follow the noise ordinance and save our poor hens backs.
the meat is better for us to, and they lived good lives.
