That video is absolute revolting. People need to see this and stop being so up in arms over backyard chickens vs factory ones. If only they knew...

The place in that video has to be the filthiest poultry operation in the world. I visited a place in Iowa that had over 500,000 birds and it was very clean with no ammonia smell. They were in cages like the video showed but maybe had fewer birds in each one because they could move around and weren't pecking each other half to death. None of them were panting like dogs and only the occasional bird showed any evidence of damaged feathers or other health problems. I wouldn't want to raise chickens like that but I was very impressed that a large-scale operation could be that good.

that always makes me mad, we butchered 6 roosters today and a friend came over to help out.
he brought his 2 sons and daughter, when we brang the axe down and the head popped off
the kids freaked out and said "I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE REALLY GOING TO DO IT!!!!!! DON'T YOU FEEL BAD?!?!?!?!!?!?"
it was their dad who did it first, and they would not stop asking if he felt bad he said "you eat chicken don't you?" and they said
"yes but it's not real chicken." lol, if it doesn't grow off a tree then where does it come from?

LOL this reminds me of a few years back we had a 4-h chicken club that started up one year (sadly that was it's only year there was drama with the lady running it and the extension office 4-h is run through in my county) and the lady who is now a family friend raises cows, pigs, chickens, and one time a sheep. well there was a family that joined that had yet to get chickens and they were joining to get more info (they were a weird bunch anyway) and one day the leader says ok guys at our next meeting i thought we would butcher a few roosters and i thought we would eat them also but i need a few more roosters cause i only have one. so i spoke up and said i had a few that needed to go well at the next meeting everyone showed up and when we went to cut the heads off the mom in that family said "WAIT i didn't think you were actually going to do it how cruel are you people why don't you just go to the store and get that chicken there nothing had to die then" the leader and me and basicly everyone else besides that family looked at her like she was crazy. needless to say they didn't come around anymore

i can't believe she said that. what did she think was going to happen? "oh i thought you were going to lay it's head on the block and stop right before the axe hit and magically make frozen meat appear with no harm to the bird"
sadly alot of people don't get it. the birds we are culling live lives that factory farms birds can only dream of.
